The End of the 48HBC

I have had a wonderful time with the 48 Hour Book Challenge sponsored by MotherReader.   When I last checked the starting line page, there were 109 people signed up.  With life being so busy, I have put my favorite pastime of reading on the back burner.  This challenge has reawakened my passion for reading.

The Second 24 hour breakdown:
June 4 11:15 am - 1:15 pm = finished Dark Life by Kat Falls

Review for Dark Life:
What will happen when the oceans rise and the coasts are gone?  Where will humans live when all the available earth is built on?  The only place to go is the ocean floor.  The Rising has occured and now there are two sets of people:  Topsiders and Dark Life.  Living on the ocean floor has advantages: plenty of land to claim and beautiful wildlife.  However, there are dark secrets underwater...secrets that could end life on the ocean floor forever.  I loved this book!  I would be one who would like to live on the ocean floor, farming kelp and fish, living in a house that looks like a jellyfish.  Even when you think you have everything figured out, there are still surprises.

Dark Life

1:15 pm - 2:15 pm = started Skeleton Creek book 3:  The Crossbones by Patrick Carman.
2:15 pm - 3:15 pm = Facebook break (I have an addiction to Farmville), reading blogs
3:15 pm - 5:00 pm = finished Crossbones

Review The Crossbones:
Patrick Carman wove written and visual storytelling successfully.  Ryan and Sarah now live in different states but that doesn't stop them continuing their look into the Crossbones Society.  Ryan wrote in his journal chronicling the mystery while Sarah added informative suspenseful videos.  The Apostle and the ghost of Old Joe Bush are back.  Sarah and Ryan uncovered gold the first time they delved into old secrets.  What will they uncover this time?  Crossbones left me wanting to read the next in the series, The Raven

The Crossbones (Skeleton Creek)

5:15 pm - 5:50 pm = started The Name of this Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch, abandoned:  This is the second time I have tried to read this book.  I felt like the author was trying to hard to keep the suspense going.
5:50 pm - 7:00 pm = finished from From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris
7:00 pm - 7:30 pm = started Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm = dinner and reading blogs/twitter
9:00 pm - 12:10 am = finished Dead and Gone
June 5 9:30 am - 10:00 am = started Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris.

Review for the Sookie Stackhouse series:
I am rereading the entire series for two reasons.  One, True Blood season 4 is going to start at the end of the month.  Two, the lastest book in the series (book 11), Dead Reckoning, came out and I wanted to refresh my memory on what had happened to Sookie in the past.  Charlaine Harris provides me with my favorite popcorn reading:  nothing too heavy but definitely entertaining.  Sookie is a telepath who lives in small town Louisiana.  She is introduced to a world of vampires, weres, shifters, and faeries.  She finds and loses love, fights battles (literally and figuratively), and learns to accept who she is.

Total reading time for second day = 11 hours, 40 minutes (includes 1 hour for networking)

Total reading time for 48HBC = 19 hours, 15 minutes
My goal was twelve hours and I am excited that I was able to surpass that.  It helped not taking pool breaks the second day.

  1. Great job beating that goal! Oh, the Bosch one wasn't too good - well, for as far as you got? That's a bummer.

  2. I will give the Bosch one another try because I hate to completely give up on a book. Maybe it gets better. I only got a fourth of the way through.

  3. Yeah, my pool reading time made the book take twice as long as it should have. But then again, I was reading by the pool so it seemed wrong to complain about such a thing. ;^)

    Thanks for playing!

  4. I had to force myself to read the Bosch book when it first came out. That there are two or three more and that kids read them (and ask for them) sort of baffles me. I never got the Snicket books either though. Great reading. This is my favorite event!
